We drove by this large gathering of people on our way home from Homa Bay where we were for outreach the last two weeks and we asked Paul what was going on.  They are reducing the socololo (Socololo is a word they use to describe anything and everything all the time, like WOW).  Circumcision day for new male babies was the occasion.

Two days ago, we met a nice Indian family who offered to kill a goat on our behalf for lunch which is a great honor that we accepted.  We went to lunch and everyone's plate was refilled over and over again with dishes to which I do not know the names, and mostly against our will.  The mama of the house was probably over 80 and lovely with blue eyes and yellow ribbon braided in her hair.  What a sweet picture until she smacked me in the face, and made me eat until I thought I would vomit.  The smack and all the cheeck pinching was endearing albeit slightly painful.

Earlier the same day, we were threatened to be beaten with fish if we did not speak to these men that we passed on the street.  A threat that was not carried out because we did not speak to them, and I was not berated with fish.  Here they speak British English and they do not make the sh sound well.  So, at first when they had said they would beat us with fishes we thought they were saying feces which is much more unpleasant.

Being a missionary is something you can do at home.  Everyone expects such excitement and craziness from our stories and sometimes it is there, but sometimes it is not because we are just living in another country.  We minister and love people like we do at home, by making friends and sharing Christ with some door to door evangelism and orphanage visits on the side.

Sometimes, Kenya is so strikingly different than anything that I have ever imagined and at the same time so incredibly similar.  People here have the same problems, the same goals, the same thoughts and just another way of following through with them. Life is interesting.  Live in love.
