What does being faithful really mean?
What is marriage supposed to look like?
If God is our husband, and He is. Then He is the standard for faithfulness. That's rough.
Isaiah 54:9 says that God is, in fact, a husband to His creation.
As the wife of God, we have been incredibly unfaithful. We serve idols, money, ourselves, pretty much anything unworthy or undeserving. Jeremiah 3:1
But He says even if we have come to the point of evil and incivility (Yes Richard I used a non-existent word) that deems eating the flesh of our own children lawful, He will still take us back. He says just humble yourselves to confess to me that you were wrong. He wants us to come back no matter how badly we have screwed up. Leviticus 26:29 26:40-42
As a divine husband, He is always the pursuer of His bride. It is never on us to make the first move, even toward redemption.
In Isaiah 53:10 it says that it pleased God to bruise His only son. Wow. What could please someone enough to allow them to watch their child die in pain, shame, and disgrace? YOU.
God is faithful to death.
He never changes. His love never falters because it is a faithful love.
God is faithful and He calls us to be faithful. The fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22) includes faithfulness. The Spirit inside of believers is the very essence of God, reassuring us that indeed faithfulness is of Him.
In Revelations 2:10 the faithful are rewarded with a crown of life which is wonderful. However, the best part for me is this: 2 Timothy 2:13 When we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself. AMEN. He is faithful, even when I no longer care, when I give away my love, when I just cannot believe because what I have seen.
I love you all, and it turns out, so does God.
